Park for rescued animals

Monday the 20th, was the day my family and i would spend the day out to celebrate           my daughters 6th birthday.

My daughter loves animals, and really wanted to go to the zoo. I explained to her that animals are kept in cages, she was expecting to cuddle them like they do in cartoons. Some zoo's have animals from all over the world.

I looked at reviews of places to go in Portugal, and found most of them to be miles away from us, and expensive, and the comments from people didn't seem to positive. The comments were sad to read, either the animals they went to see weren't there, or they were kept in bad conditions.

This upset me, and this is also the reason i never go to these places. Luckily for us we found a lovely rescue centre not far from us.  Nestled in to the base of the mountain ranges, a place near Lousã, called Miranda do corvo. Here is the link....

I recently saw an article in a Portuguese post, saying that not long ago they saw that there were wild bears living in the mountains of the northern parts of Portugal, which meant the were no longer extinct.

My daughter loves bears, and heard that there were two resident bears at this rescue centre.

For a fiver entry we just couldn't miss this opportunity. The park was clean, wild, natural, and really close for the public to interact. Different area's of the park made it fun to pass through, jungle, riverside, farm yard, and horse riding area. It was quiet and no one was about, so it gave us a chance to freely enjoy the animals. I've posted up some pictures of our adventures and i urge you, if you are visiting the area, of Serra Estrela, to pop in to Lousã, there are lots of things to do and a magnificent castle with amazing history to explore.

All in all, a happy young 6 year old, we travelled home at dusk, down the mountain track, and admired our wild nature reserve of our own, our farm and our village up high and as wild as you can get.
