The Humble Potato

Image
Following on from my last post, I thought i'd remind those of you whom have forgotten the brilliance and beauty of the humble Potato. Since its birth, the Potato was rooted in the hills of the highlands of Peru, about 6,000 years ago and even longer. Nowadays, the well travelled spud has more a popular audience, here in Europe and across the water In America, within the past of 500 years of its existence.          The culture of the people before the Incas were the first to land these familiar tubers upon their table, far up in the mountains of the South American Andes. There, they used the spuds, not only to eat, but use them with strong beliefs of telling the time and predicting the future. These roots were held in such high admiration that their following family in years after, had great importance to them, Quechua Indians, and gave them over 1000 names in their native language. The Spanish, in the early 15th century, had heard and tried

Self-sustainability and tips for survival

As each day unfolds, new countries become the new statistics for this virus that is spreading the globe.  The numbers of deaths multiplies as the fear also becomes a big part of this epidemic in so many households.   But,  with all the sadness and fear comes hope and determination to fight this, and become the change we wish to see in the world.   There are so many opinions on this, so many points of views and many discussions online, on youtube about the cures, vaccines, herbal treatment to invoke immunity. To be honest, i find it all a bit baffling. The media plays a wonderful part in the story that runs alongside this historical event.   In the mean time, here on the farm, nothing much has changed. It took my family and i a few years to arrive here in the place we are in, emotionally and physically where we are found. We left the western world, the convenience, modernity, and luxury behind when we made this drastic measure to find self-sustainability a

In the light....

Through all this darkness, and despair, there is light and hope.   Humanity will prosper though this, with strength we will come together in solidarity through hard time, because that is what human"kind" does.   The aim of this message is to give the gift of creation, inspiration, heart and healing. I know when i paint, it opens my heart, doubled with beautiful music from youtube's "BLUME" channel, my mind switches off for enough time to loose myself in creativity.   I see more in nature and i delve deep into myself and practice the essence of now.. here, and gratitude.   I urge you all to find that creative spirit within, exchange the fear and sadness with beauty and love.    My latest work for you to enjoy... Peacock on rock Self portrait in watercolour Enjoy your creativity...

See the wisdom within..

Like the eagle soaring high, from above, we see more, more to life than what we hoped for, wished for dreamed for.       Once on our journey we take note of the detail, the simple things, the edges and the weight at which we humans are and what becomes of us.        The life cycle so fragile, so nimble, so pure to our very core. Constant reminders of our purpose, are everywhere, its weather you choose to see or ignore.       You can follow the stream of fish, you can walk the endless paths into the wild, you could stop along your way and take in all that surrounds you, you could close your vision and see within, and feel your way through the thick of it, with every warm step, the struggle that remains.   This is a test we are all on, to look into our meaning, our reasons and our own logic.        I had this moment bound me just before i decided to take a life of survival and sacrifice. It wasn't decided or chose, as some would think, it was a calling,

The bees are swarming

Image
The other week i noticed outside our house, where we keep our car parked, there is an old abandoned building, with bees swarming. They we rather busy and zooming past on a right old mission.   I spoke to a few friend who has bees, to find out why they are here all of a sudden. My good friend Gary gave me a few tips to make a little home for them, where they can make honey.   Since then, the bees have calmed and seem to be more relaxed, to and fro-ing from flower to abandoned house.    Soon i'll make a little box for them, but what  good news for me, as I've always wanted bees. It was next on my list of things to do for the farm. Alas money and time was not on my side when deciding to own some. So,  now they have made camp in my immediate vicinity, would be a shame to ignore them, after all they might have heard my plea.   We'll see what becomes of it.   I too have been a busy little bee, extending my colour palette to watercolour portraits of the family.
