Summer thunder and lightning

I absolutely love this weather... The garden gets a good soaking, naturally, one less job from my husband and i.

There is no wind to speak of, just thick heavy falling rain..

The sky is rumbling for miles, the odd streak of lightning across the sky and my neighbour insists that my husband helps him to chop some of his wood for the small sum of ten euro's.

Which my husband would do so for free, to help the old guy out, but not to be rude, he accepted the offer. In the rain, lightning and thunder, with the usual watchers holding umbrellas.



Meanwhile the neighbour is building a miniature sized castle to shelter from the hot sun. No chance of that sun appearing today.



It was my daughters birthday the other day and we took the opportunity to take some flower girl photos.




A Sunday of movies and painting and finishing off my portrait of Florence, from Florence and the machine.

Elderflower cordial

You know its spring time when... the warm mornings bring light rain, thunder and lightning in the afternoon. I love being up in the high mountains at this time of year, we really do witness a storm brewing above our heads.  You watch the West come in, the East combine and then cracks of thunder pierce the skies, it excites me so much, makes you realise the power of nature.  We watched the storm approaching when we were out picking elderflowers, we have elder tree's all over our village. We brought our handmade basket i made from grape vines, i snipped the flower while my little daughter collected them up.  Boiling water to make our cordial while we watched the lightning fork the sky. Recipe for Elderflower Cordial    25 heads of elder flowers    Zest of 3 oranges and lemons and their juices    1 kg of sugar Directions:-  Boil 1.5 litres of water and sit the flowers in a bowl covered overnight to infuse.                      The next day, strain

Spring has begun up in the mountains, the distant sound of chainsaw's and strimmers fill the air, in preparation for the yearly land clearance. A vital part of living out here in the depths of the mountains, is that the land is maintained, and mainly for prevention of the risk of fires.   The sun has been hot this week, temperatures reaching up to 30celcius, and the garden high up here knows about it all, and us gardeners fear the risk of early bolting plants. The heat change hot to cool, and the humidity can cause some distress to both gardeners and plants. Nothing much different from most years, it'd about keeping an eye on the plants making sure they have water at the right time of day, and have adequate shade from other plants and trees.
